Third period onslaught carries Skidmore past St. Anselm, 4-1

Box Score
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The Skidmore College hockey team erased a one-goal deficit with four goals in the game's final 7:15 for a 4-1 New England Hockey Conference win over St. Anselm College Friday night at the Saratoga Springs City Rink

The Thoroughbreds (4-11-1, 4-5 NEHC) avenge an early season 4-2 loss to the Hawks (8-5-1, 6-4-1).

Neither team could find the net in a physical first period.  Jonathon Pallotta scored off a well placed pass through crease from Mark Meads to give St. Anselm a 1-0 lead at 3:22 of the first period. Nick Leonard had the second assist.

With the Hawks holding on to a 1-0 lead late in the third, Skidmore's Quentin Campbell (Newmarket, Ont./St. Andrew's College) corralled a bouncing rebound to score his first collegiate goal at 12:45 from Sam Bloom (Davis, Calif./NJ Rockets) and Andreas Michailidis (Stamford, Conn./Jr. Bruins).

Marc Cibelli (Liverpool, N.Y./Gunnery School) deflected a shot past St. Anselm goalie Shane Joyce for his team-high eighth goal of the season at 14:15 from Dennis Maier (Regensburg, Germany/Northern Cyclones) and Adam Moodie (Wolfe Island, Ont./St. Andrew's College).

Campbell made it 3-1 with a power-play goal from Maier and Mickey Foley (Longmeadow, Mass./Springfield Pics).  Will Golden (Cohasset, Mass./Boston Jr. Bandits) capped the scoring with an empty netter at 18:40. Campbell and Bloom had the helpers.

The Thoroughbreds outshot the Hawks 28-20. Jack McDonald (King City, Ont./St. Andrew's College) continued his hot play in goal with 19 saves for Skidmore. Joyce finished with 24 saves for St. Anselm.

The home stand continues on Saturday, when the Thoroughbreds host New England College at 4 p.m.  The Hawks travel to Castleton University for a 4 p.m. game.
