Early goals send Thoroughbreds to Liberty win over Clarkson

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—  The Skidmore College men's soccer team opened Liberty League play with 2-0 win over Clarkson University Saturday at Wachenheim Field.
 
The Thoroughbreds are 5-2 overall and 1-0 in league play, while the Golden Knights fall to 3-5-1 and 0-1.
 
For the seventh time in eight games, Skidmore scored in the first 10:00 of play. This time it was a long cross from the left from Jeremy Tenenbaum that found Kevin Santos who scored near side at 4:33. It was the fourth goal of the season for Santos.
 
Augustine Okoye scored his fourth goal of the season when he poked in a throw-in from Ben Caples at 20:53 for the 2-0 lead.
 
Neither team scored in the second half, with both keepers busy.
 
Skidmore outshot Clarkson 16-12. The Golden Knights had an 8-2 corner advantage.
 
Eli Kisselbach had seven saves, five in the second half, for his third shutout of the season. Michael King had seven saves for Clarkson.
 
The Thoroughbreds host RIT on Oct. 2 at 4 p.m.
