#21 Plattsburgh rallies late to nip Skidmore 2-1

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. –- Plattsburgh State found the net late in the second half for a 2-1 non-conference men's soccer win over Skidmore College, Saturday.

The 21st ranked Cardinals remain perfect at 8-0, while the Thoroughbreds are 3-2.

Todd Jensen broke the scoreless tie in the 9th minute and put Skidmore on the board first when he nailed a free kick from 25 yards out. Jensen was able to bend a shot around the Plattsburgh wall and sent it near post by Cardinal goalie.

The Cardinals evened the score 32 minutes later. After a foul call on Skidmore, Plattsburgh midfielder Fabian Chaparro sent a free kick across the 18 yard box to Nick Economou who initially trapped the ball with his head, then was able to get a foot on the ball and sent a shot past Thoroughbred goalie Eli Kisselbach.

Both teams seemed to struggle offensively throughout the match. Skidmore led in shots 8-7, while both teams only had two corner kicks each.

It was a very physical match as well. A total of seven yellow cards were given out between both teams, with Plattsburgh receiving three and Skidmore four.

Tied at one goal each, it was Alexia Archilla who found the back of the net to give the Cardinals a 2-1 lead with six minutes remaining in regulation.

Skidmore will host MCLA on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
