Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's soccer tripped up by Geneseo, 2-0

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—Geneseo used two second-half goals to secure a 2-0 non-conference win against the Skidmore College women's soccer team, Friday evening at Wachenheim Field.

The Thoroughbreds go to 2-2, while the Knights move to 3-1-1.

Skidmore had the best chance of the opening frame from 12 miuntes into the game. Nicole LoRusso delivered a corner that fell to Shelby Hanlon, but her first-time strike was cleared off the line by a Geneseo defender. Megan Caccavale's header on the ensuing rebound was turned away by Knights goalkeeper Emily Janiszewski.

The two teams continued to battle for possession in the midfield the remainder of the half with neither side able to generate a quality scoring opportunity.

After nearly 60 scoreless minutes the Knights pulled in front on Emily Green's second tally of the season. Leah Greene dribbled in from the left wing before feeding a pass to Green at the top of the 18. Green turned quickly and riffled a left-footed strike in off the crossbar.

Geneseo continued to thwart Skidmore's attack in the second half, holding the Thoroughbreds without a shot over the final 23 minutes of play.

The Knights put the game out of reach with 1:05 remaining as Green dribbled past two defenders before sliding a pass to a wide-open Erin O'Connor, who slotted a strike into the left corner to make it 2-0.

Geneseo outshot Skidmore 11-7, including a 7-1 advantage in the second half, while the Thoroughbreds had four corners to the Knights three. Junior goalkeeper Deirdre Walsh made five saves in goal for Skidmore, while Janiszewski stopped the only shot she faced, earning her third shutout in four games.

Skidmore travels to Plattsburgh Saturday, Sept. 19 for a 1 p.m. contest.
