ROCHESTER, N.Y.—Top seed Rochester made the most of five hits on the way to a 5-0 win over fourth seed Skidmore in the first round of the Liberty League softball tournament.

The Thoroughbreds (14-21) will face the loser of the Union-Rensselaer game in an elimination game on Friday at 12:30 p.m. Rochester will play the winner of that game at 10 a.m.

The Yellowjackets (25-11) took a 2-0 lead with a pair of unearned runs in the second inning. Â A successful squeeze in the in the fourth made it 3-0. The final two runs came in the fifth.

Skidmore couldn't get to Rochester pitcher Eleni Wechsler (11-6) who tossed the complete game three-hit shutout. She walked one and had four strikeouts.

Lauren Fortunato was 1-2 with a double and walk.
Dani DeGregory and
Abby Shea had the other Skidmore hits.

Amanda Carilli (7-14) pitched well for Skidmore, allowing five runs (three earned) on five hits and two walks. She had one strike out.
