Women's lacrosse cruises past Bard

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team got goals from 11 different players, as it rolled to a 16-4 Liberty League win over Bard, Friday evening at Wachenheim Field.

The Thoroughbreds go to 6-3 overall and 1-1 in the Liberty League, while the Raptors fall to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

Allison Byrne and Tyler Phillips each recorded two goals and an assist for Skidmore, while Peggy Healy added a three-point game with a goal and two helpers. Emma Harris, Paige DiAntonio and Tess Mattimore each added a pair of goals. In goal, Taylor Goodwill earned her first collegiate win.

Avalon Qian led Bard with two goals, while Joanna Regan had a goal and a game-high four groundballs and five draw controls. Kaylynn Tran took the loss in goal, stopping five shots.

Phillips gave Skidmore the only lead it would need 1:10 into the game, converting on a free position. Harris doubled the Thoroughbreds lead 39 seconds later and they never looked back, piling on five more goals over the next 5:43 to pull away for good.

After Emily O'Connor made it 11-0 with her first collegiate tally, Regan got the Raptors on the board, scoring from a free position. The Thoroughbreds tacked on two more goals before the half, as Byrne scored her second of the game and Adele Mackey scored unassisted with 21 seconds remaining.

Skidmore ran its lead to 15-1 at 4:18 into the second half on goals from Spencer Morgan and Mattimore.  Qian bookended three unanswered goals by Bard to cut the deficit to 15-4 with 6:53 to play, but that's as close as it would get. Mattimore notched the final goal of the game with 50 seconds left in regulation, giving the Thoroughbreds the 16-4 win.

Skidmore returns to conference action on Saturday, hosting Vassar at 4 p.m.
