CANTON, N.Y.—The Skidmore College softball team earned a Liberty League split at St. Lawrence, exploding for 10 runs in 10-0 shutout win in game two after dropping the first game 4-3.
The Thoroughbreds go to 10-14 overall and 1-3 in the Liberty League, while the Saints move to 8-7 overall and 2-2 in league play.
In the first game, St. Lawrence took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but after two scoreless innings Skidmore tied it up in the fourth.
Lizette Roman-Johnston drilled a triple and later scored on a
Lauren Fortunato single. Fishkin plated Fortunato later in the inning with an RBI groundout.
Lauren Gorstein put the Thoroughbreds in front with a sacrifice fly in the sixth, but the Saints tied it up in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI single by Jordan Sheridan. St. Lawrence starting pitcher Kyle Plimpton retired Skidmore's batters in order in the top of the seventh and Laura Finley delivered a walk-off win for the Saints in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single to center field.
Roman-Johnston was 2-for-3 for the game, while
Amanda Carilli took the loss on the mound, allowing nine hits and two earned runs over 5 1/3 innings.
Plimpton pitched a complete game, surrendering three runs (two earned) and five hits while striking out six for her eighth win of the season. Finley was 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In game two, Skidmore blew the game open with five runs in the third. Fishkin produced the first runs of the game with a two-run double and Gorstein made it 3-0 with an RBI infield single.
Casey Attonito extended the Thoroughbreds advantage to 5-0 with a two-run single up the middle.
Skidmore tacked on three more runs in the fourth, as Fishkin delivered a three-run bases-loaded single following back-to-back singles by
Dani DeGregory and Roman-Johnston and a Fortunato walk. The Thoroughbreds put the game out of question in the top of the fifth, scoring two runs on a St. Lawrence throwing error.
Fishkin finished 2-for-3 with five RBI and a run scored, DeGregory was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Roman-Johnston also went 2-for-3. Carilli earned the win on the mound, allowing just four hits.
The Thoroughbreds host RIT at for a doubleheader Saturday, April 18. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
