BALTIMORE, Md.— Skidmore's record-setting season came to a tough end Saturday night when the Thoroughbreds lost 61-58 to Johns Hopkins in the NCAA Division III second round.

Skidmore finishes its first 20-win season at 20-8. The loss ends a record-setting nine-game win steak for the Thoroughbreds. The Blue Jays set a program win record, improving to 25-4.

Each possession was a battle in a game featured 15 lead changes and six ties. Neither team led by more than six.

Erik Sanders calmly hit a three to make it 57-55. Gene Williams hit a pair of free throws for Hopkins with :14 left to make it 59-55.
Connor Merrill then hit a long three with 6.1 seconds left to keep the Thoroughbreds in it, 59-58. Another pair of made Blue Jay free throws and the lead went back to three, 61-58.
Aldin Medunjanin worked his way past two defenders and launched a deep three that rattled off the back of the rim.

Sanders finished with 17 points. Merrill had 14 points, three blocks and four assists. Medunjanin scored 10 points to go along with four assists and four steals.
Royce Paris added 10 points off the bench.

Jimmy Hammer led the Blue Jays with 16 points, while Williams had 14.
" It's really hard to put my emotions into words," Skidmore coach
Joe Burke said after the game. "All I can say is that I am so proud of this group of young men. What we have done here is nothing short of exceptional and what we have built is one of the best Division III basketball programs in the country.
"I think anyone who watched the game tonight realized that this game could have gone either way. We had a couple tough breaks at the end and came up a bucket short.
"It's hard to say goodbye to an incredible senior class but the legacy they have left will continue to be the trademark of this program "toughness" and "togetherness" and those were on display tonight."
