Thoroughbreds drop tight game to #7 Hamilton College, 11-8

CLINTON, N.Y.—The Skidmore College lacrosse team had its three game win streak snapped by seventh ranked Hamilton College, 11-8, Tuesday at Steuben Field.

Down 9-3, the pesky Thoroughbreds (5-2) battled back by scoring five of the game's final seven goals to get back in the game with the Continentals (6-1).

Hamilton opened the game on a 5-0 run, then responded to Skidmore's 3-1 burst midway through the opening period by netting three goals in a row.

Down 9-3,  Morgan and Emma Harris scored goals 1:19 apart late in the half to cut Hamilton's lead to 9-5 but Hamilton beat the halftime buzzer to make it 10-5 at the break.

Tyler Phillips sparked Skidmore's rally, picking up two of her three goals in the second half and assisting on a goal by Spencer Morgan  with 2:29 left in regulation that pulled the Thoroughbreds to 11-8. Skidmore won the ensuing draw (the Thoroughbreds won 12 of 20 on the day) but turned the ball over twice and sent two shots wide of net with a third saved by Hamilton's Kari Koga.

Harris and Morgan both scored a pair of goals for Skidmore. Emily Schlicht caused four turnovers to lead all players. She and Rachel Talanian had three ground balls apiece.

Hannah Rubin earned the win in goal for Hamilton, tying her personal high with six saves over the first 49:32.  Megan Kolopsky '17 finished with nine saves for Skidmore.

The Thoroughbreds open Liberty League play at Rensselaer Saturday.
