WINTER HAVEN, Fla.—The Skidmore College softball team went 1-1 to open play at the 2015 Rebel Spring Games, rebounding from a 4-0 extra-innings loss to Husson with a 5-2 win over McDaniel, Sunday in Winter Haven, Fla.

The opening game was a pitcher's duel, as the Thoroughbreds and the Eagles combined for seven hits in eight innings.
Amanda Carilli went the distance for Skidmore in her collegiate debut, allowing two runs on six hits, while Kayla Merrill gave up just one hit in eight shutout innings for Husson. The Eagles managed to pull away in extra innings with four runs in the top of the eighth before Merrill retired the side in the bottom half to seal the 4-0 win.

Skidmore's bats came alive in the second game of the day, as the Thoroughbreds opened a 5-0 lead with five runs in the first two innings.
Lauren Fortunato put Skidmore in front with an RBI single in the top of the first and
Mackenzie Whiting drove her home with an RBI double in the next at bat.

Lizette Roman-Johnston made it 3-0 in the top of the second, scoring on a passed ball. Fortunato extended the Thoroughbreds lead with her second RBI single of the day, later scoring on a
Cassie Fishkin single to right field.

Fishkin also went four innings on the mound, allowing one earned run on six hits. Carilli gave up one run on six hits in the final three innings to record her first career save.

Forunato was 2-for-4 and
Dani DeGregory went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.

The Thoroughbreds return to action tomorrow, taking on Eastern Connecticut State at 10 a.m. before facing Centenary College at 12:15 p.m.
