SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—Junior attackman Kane Haffey scored seven goals and added two assists to lead #9 Amherst to a 16-7 win over the Skidmore College men's lacrosse team, Tuesday evening at Wachenheim Field.
The Thoroughbreds go to 1-3 on the season, while the Jeffs improve to 4-0.
Sophomore midfielder
Jack Metzler netted a pair of goals for Skidmore, while junior
Josh Trachtenberg and freshmen
Jack Curry,
Ian Maag and
Cody Legeza and
Andrew DeStefano added a goal each.
Amherst opened the game with eight unanswered goals, including a first-quarter hat trick from Haffey. Curry managed to get one back for Skidmore just before the end of the quarter, ripping home a long range shot as time expired.
The Thoroughbreds carried the momentum into the second quarter, as
Josh Trachtenberg potted his fourth of the season :59 into the frame. After Haffey restored Jeffs seven-goal cushion, DeStefano scored his first career goal.
Amherst responded in the third quarter, pulling away with five straight goals. Metzler scored both his goals in the fourth quarter and Legeza added his third of the season midway through the stanza. Maag scored the game's final goal with 2:44 to play, producing his first collegiate goal.
Quinn Moroney finished with five assists for Amherst. Kevin Curry had two goals and an assist and Connor Crump chipped in with two goals.
The Jeffs outshot the Thoroughbreds 36-35 and owned a 28-26 advantage in groundballs.
Chris Baughan turned away eight shots in goal for Skidmore, while Cody Tranbarger made nine saves for Amherst.
The Thoroughbreds host Clark University at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 14.
