The Purple Knights improve to 8-12-2 overall and 5-9-1 in league play, while the Thoroughbreds slip to 4-15-3 and 3-11-1.
Jack McDonald (King City, Ontario/Saint Andrew's College) recorded 48 saves in the loss for the Thoroughbreds.
St. Michael's outshot Skidmore 49-27, including 23-8 in the second period. The Thoroughbred defense killed off seven Purple Knight power plays.
The game's lone goal came off a rebound at 2:52 when Anthony Maiuri scored his second of the season.
Skidmore had a big opportunity in the third when
Marc Cibelli found himself on a breakaway opportunity at 4:50, but his backhanded shot was stopped by Dave Donzanti, who was hugging the left post. The Thoroughbreds pulled McDonald for the extra attacker with 1:31 remaining. First-year
Andreas Michailidis (Stamford, Conn./Jr. Bruins) had his turnaround shot with 50 seconds left clang off the right post and after a Saint Michael's penalty, Michailidis again had another shot with five seconds to go, but Connor Mitchell made a diving block to deny the final shot on goal attempt.
The Thoroughbreds travel to Norwich on Saturday for a 4 p.m. game.
