Ice hockey closes out regular season with a pair against Castleton

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.-The Skidmore College ice hockey team closes out the regular season with a home-and-home against Castleton this weekend.

SCOUTING THE THOROUGHBREDS (4-16-3, 3-12-1 ECAC East): Skidmore dropped back-to-back ECAC East games over the weekend with losses at Saint Michael's and #1 Norwich...Sophomore netminder Jack McDonald made a season-high 48 saves in a 1-0 loss to the Purple Knights...The Thoroughbreds took a 3-2 lead in the second period against Norwich, but the Cadets closed out the game with four unanswered goals to take the 6-3 win...Skidmore became the first team this season to score two power-play goals on Norwich, going 2-for-4 with the man advantage...Sophomore forward Marc Cibelli had a goal and an assist and junior forward Ondrej Krajnak added two assists...Senior forward David Limoges and freshman defenseman Connor Pelkey potted a goal each.

STATISTICS: Krajnak has registered nine assists against ECAC East opponents this season...He ranks third on the team with 16 points (3G, 13A)...Pelkey is tied for second in the league with five power play goals and fourth in rookie scoring with 11 points (7G, 4A)...Cibelli leads the team with 10 goals, placing him tied for 10thin the league...Skidmore is 3-0 when leading after two periods...Only four of the Thoroughbreds game have been decided by one goal...Skidmore is 2-5-1 in ECAC East road contests this season.


SCOUTING THE SPARTANS (8-14, 6-9 ECAC East): Castleton went 1-1 over the weekend, falling 3-0 at #1 Norwich before knocking off Saint Michael's, 6-2...Junior forward Will Laking tallied two goals against the Purple Knights...Freshman forward Kurt Johnson had a goal and an assist and senior forward Ryan Frost and freshman defenseman James Burns each had a pair of helpers...Freshman goalie Ryan Mulder made 41 saves against Saint Michael's...The Spartans scored three power play goals in the win.

STATISTICS: Frost leads the team with seven goals and 13 points...Sophomore blueliner Patrick Thornton has produced a team-high 11 assists...Laking has netted five goals in the last five games...He is tied for the team-high with seven goals...Johnson is tied for fifth in the conference with three game-winning goals...Mulder has appeared in 15 games, posting a .923 save percentage and a 2.59 goals against average...Castleton is 5-2 when leading after the first period and 7-3 when scoring first, but 0-6 when trailing after a one and 1-11 when its opponent scores first....The Spartans rank third in the league with 27 third period goals.
