Erik Sanders and
Edvinas Rupkus scored 18 points each to lead the Skidmore College men's basketball team to a 69-57 road win over The College of New Jersey, Tuesday night.
The Thoroughbreds, who received votes in this week's D3hoops.com national poll, have won four straight to move to 4-1. The Lions are 3-3.
Tied 27-27 with 2:40 to play in the first half, Skidmore used an 11-0 run that bridged the end of the half and start of the second to open a 38-27 lead. TCNJ would get no closer than eight the rest of the way. Rupkus had five consecutive points in the run, including a deep three-pointer.
Rupkus was 8-10 from the floor and added eight rebounds. Sanders had a team-high four assists.
Martin Bedulskij had a double/double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Nick Volpe scored eight points to go along with nine boards.
"Road wins are hard to come by, so I am pleased to come out of there with a W," said Skidmore coach
Joe Burke. "It wasn't pretty all the time. but I was really happy with how we executed the defensive game plan. We are a pretty banged up group right now so we needed other guys to step up and I felt like they did that."
Skidmore returns home on Dec. 5 to finish the semester against Middlebury College at 4 p.m.
