Mickey Foley (Longmeadow, Mass./Springfield Pics) scored 51 seconds into overtime as the Thoroughbreds took a 5-4 win against the Saint Michael's College men's ice hockey team in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action at Cairns Arena on Saturday.
The Purple Knights are 1-6 overall and 1-5 in the NEHC, while the Thoroughbreds, coming off of a Friday night win against third-ranked Norwich University, are 2-5 and 2-4.Â
In addition to Foley's goal, Skidmore juniors
Sam Bloom (Davis, Calif./New Jersey Rockets) and
Marc Cibelli (Liverpool, N.Y./The Gunnery) and sophomores
Christian Leahy (Scituate, Mass./Thayer Academy) and
Connor Pelkey (Charlotte, Vt./Rochester Junior Americans) each scored, with Cibelli adding one helper. Sophomore
Andreas Michailidis (Samford, Conn./Boston Junior Bruins) had two assists, while classmates
Luke Alletzhauser (Cicero, N.Y./University of New England),
Kenny Nelson (Westmount, Quebec/Cornwall Colts) and
Jack Sloan (Zionsville, Ind./Springfield) and first-year
Adam Moodie (Wolfe Island, Ontario/Saint Andrew's College) contributed assists. First-year
Oscar Flory (Stockholm, Sweden/Kimball Union Academy) turned in 27 stops for the win.
Foley's goal came 51 seconds into the extra session after he flicked a rebound shot into the right corner following Alletzhauser's point shot.
The Purple Knights took an early 2-0 lead thanks to a pair of power-play goals. Skidmore soon countered with two goals in a 31-second span. Bloom's tally at 15:39 was quickly followed up with Cibelli stuffing in the puck five-hole to even the score at 2-2 in the first period.
Skidmore took the lead just 12 seconds into the second period. Michailidis' point shot was stopped by Johnson's right pad, but the rebound kicked to Leahy, who punched in the puck to the open side. Saint Michael's evened up the score at 5:05. Â Pelkey fired a slapshot past Johnson's glove at 10:26 as Skidmore owned a 4-3 through two periods.
SMC knotted the score at 4-4 with a goal at 11:02 to force the OT.
The Thoroughbreds host the Cortland in the first round of the Skidmore Invitational on Nov. 28.
