Box ScoreSARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.— Playing its second nationally ranked team in as many days, the Skidmore College men's hockey team narrowly missed the upset, losing 3-2 to #10 UMASS-Boston in a New England Hockey Conference contest.
The Thoroughbreds fall to 0-5 overall and 0-4 in the NEHC. The Beacons remain unbeaten at 4-0 and 2-0.
The game was scoreless until early in the second period when UMB's Albee Daley scored in traffic at 6:11 from Andrew Crawford. Matt Lemire made 2-0 when he fired home a rebound for a power-play goal at 7:47 from Colin Larkin and Frankie De Augustine.
Skidmore never quit, scrapping for opportunities in the third period. The work paid off at 9:07 when
Adam Moodie scored his second of the season from
Anthony Bird and
Marc Cibelli.
Connor Pelkey's power-play goal tied it 2-2 at 14:27 from Bird and Cibelli.
Lemire ended the Thoroughbred challenge when he thread-the-needle for the game winner at 17:30. DeAugustine and Brett Mason were credited with the assists.
Skidmore goalie
Jack McDonald stayed busy with 40 saves, including 16 in the third period. Billy Faust had 25 saves for the Beacons.
The Thoroughbred schedule doesn't get any easier with at trip to #3 Norwich on Nov. 20.
