Skidmore drops home opener to #8 Babson

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—Babson College broke open a tight game with three second-period goals on the way to a 4-0 New England Hockey Conference win over Skidmore College, Friday night at the Saratoga Springs City Rink.
 
The Thoroughbreds drop to 0-4 overall and 0-3 in the NEHC, while the eighth ranked Beavers remain unbeaten at 3-0 and 1-0.
 
Skidmore kept Babson off the board in the first period behind 10 saves from rookie goaltender Oscar Flory.
 
The Beavers came out strong in the second. Dan Casey found himself all alone in front after a nice cross-crease pass from Tim Searles for his second goal of the season at 4:12. Jake Donahue had the second assist. Charlie Ackerman made it 2-0 a little over a minute later from Michael Phillips. Tommy Munichiello closed out the period with his second goal of the season at 14:38 from Bobby Hall and Jared Wiedemann.
 
Ackerman had the lone goal in the third period at 9:58 for the 4-0 final. Matt Michalke and Jimmy Magrath were credited with the helpers.
 
Babson outshot Skidmore 39-21. The Thoroughbreds killed off all four Beaver power plays.
 
Flory finished with 35 saves.  Jamie Murray had 21 saves for his 13th career shutout.
 
Skidmore will host #10 UMASS-Boston on Saturday at 4 p.m.  Babson travels to Castleton University for a 4 p.m. start.
