Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Bard upsets Skidmore 2-1

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's soccer team lost its third straight game on Tuesday night, falling to Bard College, 2-1, in a Liberty League game.

Skidmore fell to 9-5-1 overall, 4-3-0 in the Liberty League. Bard is 7-8-1, 1-6-1.

The Raptors scored twice in the first half on headers 63 seconds apart. Brendan Byrne (Lanoka Harbor, NJ) scored in the 26th minute, getting to a cross from Austin Higgins (Toms Rivers, NJ) with his head inches ahead of Skidmore keeper Eli Kisselbach (Stamford, CT).

Just over minute later, Higgins headed in a cross from Nick Shenberger (Hummelstown, PA) to make it 2-0. It stayed that way until halftime.

The Thoroughbreds created pressure immediately to start the second half, and cut the lead to 2-1 in the 50th minute. Ben Caples' (Wayland, MA) long throw-in was headed in by Ben Poole (Chilmark, MA), and the tension in the game ratcheted up 100 percent.

Bard spent the rest of the game fending off attack after attack, and it got worse when a Bard player was given a red card in the 77th minute.

Skidmore ended up outshooting Bard 34-8, and collecting 10 corners to two, but could not get the equalizer. Daniel Gagne (East Longmeadow, MA) made 12 saves for Bard; Kisselbach made two for Skidmore.

The Thoroughbreds close out the regular season on Saturday at Union College in a 2 p.m. start.
