SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The Skidmore College volleyball team travels to SUNY Poly this weekend for matches against Plattsburgh, St. John Fisher and the host Wildcats.
The Thoroughbreds went 2-1 at the Skidmore Classic last weekend, notching sweeps against Colby-Sawyer and Hamilton.
Freshman outside hitter
Caite Canfield racked up two double-doubles and led the team in kills every match, finishing with 38 kills (3.8 per set), including 14 against the Continentals. She also contributed 35 digs (3.5 digs per set) and six service aces, earning her Liberty League Rookie of the Week honors.
Junior defensive specialist Marcela Familiar-Bolaños, who leads the Liberty League in digs per set (5.38), anchored the Skidmore defense, producing 23 digs against Hamilton, 21 against Ramapo and 19 against Colby-Sawyer.
SCOUTING PLATTSBURGH (6-8)
Plattsburgh dropped two of its three SUNYAC matches over the weekend, topping Potsdam while suffering losses against Fredonia and Geneseo. The Cardinals are 1-6 in their last seven matches.
Freshman outside hitter Sam Colombo has been a key contributor on both sides of the ball, leading the squad with 2.39 kills per set and 3.73 digs per set. Sophomore Jordynne Ales is averaging a SUNYAC-best 0.76 service aces per set and is second on the team in digs per set (3.17).
SCOUTING ST. JOHN FISHER (8-7)
St. John Fisher moved to 8-7 on the season after being swept by Nazareth on Tuesday. The Cardinals, who are 6-2 on neutral courts this season, are 1-4 over their last five matches.
Anna Marcy is averaging a team-best 2.95 kills per set and 0.33 blocks per set. Meghan Stonebarger leads Fisher in assists per set (7.34) and service aces per set (0.38). Defensively, Elise Kruez is averaging a team-high 3.81 digs per set.
SCOUTING SUNY POLY
SUNY Poly secured its 13th consecutive victory with a 3-0 win against Hamilton on Wednesday. The Wildcats, who have not lost since dropping their two opening matches of the season, have swept nine opponents during their win streak.
SUNY Poly leads the NEAC in kills per set (12.47) and assists per set (11.80) and ranks third in digs per set (15.53). Senior outside hitter Morgan Eberley paces the Wildcat offense, leading the league with 3.63 kills per set and ranking second with a .307 hitting percentage. Freshman setter Sydney Johnson is second in the conference in assists per set (9.43), while junior Shelby Kostal is sixth in service aces per set (0.72).
