Box ScoreSARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.-- The Skidmore College men's hockey team gave #7 Plattsburgh State all it could handle before losing 4-2 in a non-conference game Friday night at the Saratoga Springs City Rink.

The Thoroughbreds (2-11-1) will host Potsdam State on Saturday at 4 p.m., while the Cardinals (12-2-1) host Middlebury College on Jan. 16.

Skidmore got on the board first, when
Anthony Bird forced a neutral zone turnover and then scored on a rebound just :38 into the game.
Marc Cibelli assisted.  It would be the lone goal of the period, with Thoroughbred goalie
Jack McDonald stopping all 12 shots he faced.

The Cardinals came out strong in the second and tied the game on Mark Constantine's fourth of the season from Kyle Hall and Luke Baleshta at 1:18. Josh Koerner took advantage of a Skidmore defensive miscue to give Plattsburgh the lead at 8:08 from Zach Popp and Michael Cassidy.

Jack Sloan tied it with his first collegiate goal, a power-play marker from
Anders Gundersen and
Kenny Nelson at 9:28.  The Cardinals responded with a power-play goal of their own at 13:05 when Kevin Emmerling tallied his sixth of the season from Baleshta and Constantine.Â

Plattsburgh got an insurance goal at 3:46 of the third when Connor Toomey notched a power-play goal off a rebound with Baleshta and Rich Botting credited with the assists.

Skidmore had opportunities late, but Cardinal goalie Spencer Finney kept the Thoroughbreds off the board.

Plattsburgh had a 35-21 shot advantage and converted 2-of-6 power plays. Skidmore was 1-4.

McDonald finished with 31 saves, while Finney remained unbeaten at 8-0-1 with 19 saves.
