Ice hockey plays host to a pair of non-conference opponents

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College ice hockey team returns home this weekend to take on a pair of SUNYAC opponents, facing #7 Plattsburgh on Friday before taking on Potsdam on Saturday.

SCOUTING THE THOROUGHBREDS (2-10-1): Skidmore opened the new year with back-to-back non-conference losses at Salve Regina and Nichols…Sophomore forward Marc Cibelli netted two goals against Salve Regina and one against Nichols…Junior forward Ondrej Krajnak had two goals and three assists over the weekend.
 
STATISTICS: Krajnak has seven points (2G, 5A) in the last three games and currently ranks second on the team in assists (8) and third in points (10)…Sophomore forward Anthony Bird is third in the conference with 11 assists…Freshman defenseman Connor Pelkey leads the league with four power play tallies and sits tied for second in defenseman scoring with nine points…Skidmore is 0-5-1 at home this season.
 
 
SCOUTING THE CARDINALS (11-2-1):  Plattsburgh tied #15 Amherst 0-0 and beat #1 Norwich last week…The Cardinals are unbeaten in their last four contests…Senior forward Connor Toomey potted two goals against Norwich and junior forward Luke Baleshta added a goal and an assist…Junior netminder Spencer Finney turned away 31 shots against Amherst and made 30 saves against Norwich.
 
STATISTICS: Senior forward Michael Cassidy leads the team with 14 points and is tied for fourth in the SUNYAC with seven goals…Junior defenseman Anthony Calabrese and freshman defenseman Ayrton Valente are tied for third in the league in defenseman scoring with 10 points apiece…Finney leads the conference with a .946 save percentage and is second with a 1.56 goals against average…The Cardinals have a SUNYAC-leading 1.79 goals against average and rank second in the league in scoring offense, averaging 3.86 goals per game.

STATISTICS: Senior forward Kenny Simon leads the team with 13 points (4G, 9A)…Junior forward Matt Thompson has scored a team-high five goals…Thomas is tied for third in the conference with 10 assists and ranks second on the team with 12 points…Junior goalie Jon Hall has started 10 games in goal, posting a 3.32 goals against average and a .907 save perecentage…Potsdam leads the SUNYAC in penalty minutes per game, averaging 17.2.
