Medunjanin's near triple-double leads Skidmore to sixth straight win

SCHENECTADY, N.Y.— Junior guard Aldin Medunjanin scored 20 points and added a game-high 12 rebounds and eight assists to lead the Skidmore College men's basketball team to an 82-63 conference win at Union Friday night.
 
The Thoroughbreds, who extended their winning streak to six games, improve to 9-5 overall and 6-0 in the Liberty League, while the Dutchmen go to 8-9 overall and 2-6 in the conference.
 
Medunjanin was 4 for 8 from the field in the first half, scoring 13 points to go along with eight rebounds and six assists. Erik Sanders tied for a game-high with 21 points, also contributing eight rebounds and four assists. Connor Merrill tallied 14 points, going 6 for 9 from the floor and Perun Kovacevic had 11 points and eight boards.
 
Union had a 21-17 lead with 8:02 left in the first half, but Skidmore responded with a 20-0 run over a six-minute span to take a 37-21 lead and never looked back. The closest the Dutchmen got in the second half was 14 at 58-44 with 9:50 left, and the Thoroughbreds largest lead was 23 with 13 seconds remaining.
 
William Hyton led Union recording his 10th double-double of the season with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Deshon Burgess scored 17 points for the and Ryan Whelpley had 10 points.
 
Skidmore shot 50.9% (29-57), including 46.7% (7-15) from 3-point range, while the Dutchmen finished with a 36.2% (25-69) field goal percentage. The Thoroughbreds owned a 50-31 advantage in rebounds for the contest.

"I'm proud of how we hung in there early on," said Skidmore head coach Joe Burke. "Coming off a long break I had a feeling it would take us some time to get going. Once we settled in on the defensive end the momentum started to shift. Our defense in the last 10 minutes in the first half was at a high level."
