Ice hockey set to host two ECAC East foes

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.-The Skidmore College ice hockey team will look to get back on track this weekend when it hosts ECAC East rivals Southern Maine and the University of New England.

Skidmore (2-11-2, 1-7 ECAC East) vs. Southern Maine (3-11, 1-8 ECAC East)

SCOUTING THE THOROUGHBREDS (2-11-2, 1-7 ECAC East): Skidmore gave #7 Plattsburgh everything it could handle on Friday, but the Cardinals scored the final two goals of the game, pulling away for the 4-2 win...The Thoroughbreds skated to a 1-1 tie with Potsdam on Saturday...Sophomore goalie Jack McDonald made 67 saves over the weekend, stopping 31 shots against Plattsburgh at 36 against Potsdam...Freshman defenseman Jack Sloan netted his first collegiate goal against the Cardinals and added an assist against the Bears...Sophomore forward Anthony Bird recorded his team-leading 14th point with a goal against Plattsburgh.

STATISTICS: Skidmore's power play has gone 7/22 (31.8%) over the last five games...The Thoroughbreds are 0-7 when their opponent scores first...Freshman defenseman Connor Pelkey has tallied five goals, including three power play goals, against conference opponents this season...Sophomore forward Marc Cibelli is tied for the team lead with six goals and has registered four points (3G, 1A) over the last four games...Freshman forward Mickey Foley is tied for sixth in the conference in freshman scoring with seven points (5G, 2A)...Skidmore's last win came in the first meeting between the two teams on Nov. 8.


SCOUTING THE HUSKIES (3-11, 1-8 ECAC East): Southern Maine bounced back from a 4-0 loss against New England College on Friday with a 2-1 win over Saint Anselm on Saturday...Senior forward Stephen Gallo scored his team-high fourth goal of the season in the win...Freshman forward Alex Pantalone netted the game-winning goal... The Huskies are 2-1 over their last three games after starting the season 1-10 and have scored seven goals in the last three contests after scoring 11 in the first 11 games.

STATISTICS: Southern Maine is 0-6 on the road and it has been shutout in four of the losses...The Huskies average a conferece-low 1.29 goals per game and have a goals against average of 3.79...Southern Maine is 1-8 when its opponents score first...The Huskies are 2-1 in one-goal games this season...Gallo leads the lead with six points (4G, 2A) and Pantalone is second with five points (3G, 2A)...Freshman netminder Kyle Shapiro has started all 14 games in goal, posting a 3.73 goals against average and a .894 save percentage.

SCOUTING THE NOR'EASTERS (4-9-1, 2-6-1 ECAC East): New England battled to a 3-3 tie with New England College Saturday after falling 5-2 at Saint Anselm on Friday...Junior forward Ben Pearl tallied twice against the Pilgrims...Senior goalie Colby Drost made 43 saves, including eight in overtime, to preserve the tie...The Nor'easters are 1-3-1 over their last five contests.

STATISTICS: New England averages a league-low 8.7 penalty minutes per game...The Nor'easters outscored their opponents 18-10 in the first period...They are 3-2-1 when leading after the first and 3-0 when leading after two...New England is 0-4 on the road...Senior forward Jared Melman leads the team with 12 points and is tied for fifth in the league with 11 assists...10 of his 11 assists have come against ECAC East opponents...Sophomore forward Trevor Fleurent is second on the team in scoring with 11 points (5G, 6A)...Pearl is tied for the team-high with five goals...
