Hockey falls at Castleton, 4-0

Rutland, Vt. - The Skidmore College hockey team ended the regular season with a 4-0 loss at Castleton State College, Saturday afternoon.

The Thoroughbreds (7-11-7, 3-9-6 ECAC East) finish eighth in the ECAC East and will travel to top seed Norwich University for an ECAC Quarterfinal game on Feb. 22.  Castleton (12-10-3, 8-7-3) will be the fifth seed and face #4 New England College in another quarterfinal
Jack McDonald made 27 saves in net for the Thoroughbreds, but allowed three goals in 47 minutes of play. Ben Freiberg made four saves and allowed one goal through the game's final 13 minutes.
Castleton jumped out to an early lead when senior Ben Roberts put the team on the board. Roberts cleaned up a rebound from the left slot after Derek Gingera's shot was turned away by McDonald.
In the final seconds of the first period, Kyle Richards notched his fourth goal of the season to give Castleton a 2-0.
In the second, Skidmore turned up the tempo, pouring on 14 shots, but Erick Cinotti was up to every challenge, turning away each of the Thoroughbreds' attempts on net.
In the final period, The Spartans cashed in on a pair of power-play opportunities to finish with a 4-0 lead.
