Box ScoreBABSON PARK, Mass.— Number 7 Babson College defeated visiting Skidmore College, 6-1, in Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) East men's ice hockey action on Friday night at the Babson Skating Center.
With its fourth straight victory, Babson moves to 4-0-0 overall and 3-0-0 in league play, while Skidmore drops to 2-4-0 overall and 1-4-0 in the ECAC East.
Babson started fast, taking a 3-0 lead into the first intermission that extended to 6-0 after two periods. Three of the teams goals were power plays.
Skidmore finally got on the board at 7:09 of the third period, taking advantage of a 5-on-3 power play. The Beavers were able to block a pair of shots and junior goaltender Jamie Murray made a save on
Anthony Bird before first-year
Mickey Foley popped in the rebound for his third goal of the year.
The goal was Babson's first allowed on the power play this season, and snapped a run of 203:02 without conceding a goal by Murray and the defense, a stretch that spanned nine full periods.
Murray finished with 15 saves in the first 50:37 of action before giving way to Gene Lane who stopped three shots over the final 9:23 in his collegiate debut for the Green and White. McDonald allowed five goals and made 33 saves in 34:40 before junior Ben Frieberg (Weston, Mass.) stopped 17 of the 18 shots he faced over the final 25:30 for the Thoroughbreds.
The Beavers held a 56-19 edge in shots and scored on three of their five power play opportunities on the night.
Both teams return to action on Saturday at 4 p.m. as Babson hosts Castleton, while Skidmore will be at nationally-ranked UMass-Boston.
