Men's hockey set to host a pair of ECAC Men's East opponents

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- The Skidmore College ice hockey team plays its first games on home ice this weekend, hosting New England College on Friday before taking on Saint Anselm in a pair of ECAC Men's East contests.
 
Friday night's game against New England College is the team's annual "Pack the Rink" night. The first 400 fans in attendance with a canned good receive a pair of TBred iGloves and there will prizes awarded throughout the night.
 
Skidmore (2-1, 1-1 ECAC Men's East) vs. New England College (0-2-1, 0-2 ECAC Men's East)
 
Skidmore and the New England College split the season series last year with each team notching a win at home. The teams combined for 15 goals in the two games, as the Pilgrims recorded a 6-4 win on Nov. 15, while the Thoroughbreds picked up a 3-2 overtime win on Jan. 25.

SCOUTING THE THOROUGHBREDS (2-1, 1-1 ECAC Men's East): Skidmore rebounded from a 3-2 overtime loss at the University of New England with a 3-1 win over Southern Maine…Freshman Connor Pelkey had a goal and an assist against Southern Maine and junior goalie Ben Freiberg stopped 25 shots in his first appearance of the season…Freshman forward Christian netted his second goal of the season in the win.
 
 
SCOUTING THE PILGRIMS (0-2-1, 0-2 ECAC Men's East): New England College has dropped back-to-back games after opening the season with 2-2 tie against Fitchburg State….The Pilgrims lost 5-4 in overtime against UMass Boston and were shutout 2-0 by Babson… Junior forward Cheyne Matheson leads the team with two goals four points and is tied for the team-high with two assists…Three of his four points have come on the power play…Freshman forward Bryce Nielsen is second on the team with three points (1g, 2A)…New England features the second-best power play in the conference (23.1%)...Four of the seven goals the Pilgrims have conceded this season have come in the first period…Sophomore goaltender Brett Kilar has started two of three contests, posting a 1.94 goals against average and a .933 save percentage.
 
 
vs. Saint Anselm College (0-2, 0-2 ECAC Men's East)
 
There was nothing separating Skidmore and Saint Anselm last season, as the teams tied 3-3 in both meetings.

SCOUTING THE HAWKS (0-2, 0-2 ECAC Men's East): Saint Anselm was blanked 7-0 by Babson in its season opener last Friday and was knocked off 3-1 by UMass Boston on Saturday…Senior forward Sean Jenkins tallied the Hawks lone goal…The Hawks penalty kill ranks last in the conference (71.4%)…Freshman goalie Shane Joyce has made two appearances, posting a 4.42 goals against average and a .870 save percentage.
