Pioneers cool off Thoroughbreds, 86-75

Box Score SARTOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.-- William Paterson placed four players in double figures in an 86-75 non-league men's basketball win over Skidmore College, Saturday at the Williamson Center.
 
The loss snaps a three-game win streak for the 6-3 Thoroughbreds. The Pioneers have won four straight to improve to 9-2.
 
Erik Sanders led Skidmore with 26 points, six rebounds, three assists and three blocks. Aldin Medunjanin and Perun Kovacevic had a double/doubles. Medunjanin scored 21 points, had 10 rebounds and five assists. Kovacevic added 16 points and 11 rebounds.
 
Sandy Burgos led all scorers with 27 points for William Paterson. Javae King-Gilchrist had 21 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists. Jacques Conceicao had 13 points and eight rebounds and Zach Frick added 11 points off the bench.
 
After a tight first 12 minutes, The Pioneers used a 16-5 run over the final eight minutes of the first half to open a 44-31 lead at the break. William Paterson extended the margin to as many as 21 in the second half. The Thoroughbreds chipped away at the end, but could get no closer than the final 11—point margin.
 
Skidmore came into the game shooting 35 percent from three-point range, but struggled against the Pioneers, hitting only four of 22 attempts (18.2%).  William Paterson took care of the ball with only seven turnovers.  
 
The Thoroughbreds open Liberty League play at Clarkson on Jan. 7 at 8 p.m. before returning home to face Vassar on Jan. 10 at 8 p.m.
