Box Score SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY -- The Skidmore College volleyball team was edged 3-1 by Union Tuesday at the Williamson Sports Center.
Aria Goodman led the Thoroughbreds offense with 14 kills and added nine digs.
Natalie Nagle recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs,
Emma Wilberg had a game-high 36 assists and
Marcela Familiar-Bolanos registered a game-high 29 digs. Â
Rachel Wyman carried the Dutchmen offense with 20 kills, while Marissa Vollmer was the driving force behind the defense with 24 digs.
Skidmore jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first set and never relinquished the lead.
Clare Kenny served five straight points to close out the set, leading the Thoroughbreds to the 25-13 win.
The roles were reversed in the second set as Union responded by opening with a 10-4 run. Skidmore chipped away at the lead, but they could not close the gap and eventually fell 25-13.
In the third and fourth set neither team was able to create a substantial lead as the teams traded points. The Dutchmen went on a 5-3 run to squeak out a 25-23 win in the third set. The Thoroughbreds managed to win five straight points in the fourth set after falling behind 12-7, but with the teams tied at 22 Union stole the set's final three points, securing the 25-22 win.
Skidmore (6-5) returns to action Sept. 28 as it takes on Richard Stockton and Baruch College at the Baruch Tri-Match.
