Saratoga Springs, N.Y.-- The 12th ranked UMASS Beacons avoided the upset with a 6-4 ECAC East Hockey win over Skidmore College, Friday night at the Saratoga Springs City Rink.
The loss drops the Thoroughbreds to 9-10-2 and 6-7-1 in league play. The Beacons are 15-3-2 overall and 8-3-2 in the East.
David Limoges put Skidmore in front 19 seconds into the game from
Aaron Beck and
Tony Giacin. UMB came right back to tie it at the :32 mark on Peter MacIntyre's 13th of the season.
The Thoroughbreds went up 2-1 at 2:26 of the second when
Brendan Cottam scored his seventh from
Chris Powers and Ondrej Karajnak at 2:26. The Beacons scored the next two to take a 3-2 lead into the second break.
Skidmore tied it 3-3 at 2:26 of the third when
Vlad Gavrik tallied his ninth of the season from
Brendan Cottam and
Brian McQuillan. UMB responded with goals at 3:10 and 4:11 to go up 5-3. Krajnak got one back for the Thoroughbreds, but the Beacons sealed it with an empty netter for the 6-4 win.
Ben Freiberg had 36 saves in net for Skidmore.
The Thoroughbreds host Babson on Saturday at 4 p.m.
