Thoroughbreds skate to 2-2 tie

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Skidmore College men's ice hockey team closed out the semester with a 2-2 tie at St. Michael's College in ECAC action Saturday at Cairns Arena.
 
The Purple Knights are now 0-7-1 overall and 0-6-1 in league play, while the Thoroughbreds, who took No. 5 Norwich University to overtime on Friday night, are now 3-4-4 and 1-4-3.
 
Thoroughbred seniors Aaron Beck (Maribel, Wis./Lake Forest Academy) and Brad Schuler (Delran, N.J./Hamilton Red Wings) both scored, while first-year Jack McDonald (King City, Ontario/Saint Andrews School) stopped 36 shots.
 
Junior Jeremy Wong (Montreal, Quebec/Tilton School) and first-year Josh Dickman (Kapaa, Hawaii/Saint Paul's School) each scored for the Purple Knights. Dave Donzanti (West Chester, Pa./Northfield Mount Hermon) had 29 saves while his team outshot the visitors 38-21, including a 22-10 advantage in the third period.
 
Down 1-0, Skidmore tied the game at 6:22 of the second period on a goal by Schuler. After coincidental minors were assessed to each team with 1:06 remaining in the period, Beck gave Skidmore the lead nine seconds later. The Purple Knights came back and knotted the game early in the third frame, with Wong knocking in a rebound at 3:33 after Pieprzak's shot was saved.
           
The Thoroughbreds return to action Jan. 3 at home against Nichols College.
