Skidmore turns back Carnegie Mellon, 82-70

Box Score DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.— Tanner Brooks scored 26 points and had six assists to lead the Skidmore College men's basketball team to an 82-70 win over Carnegie Mellon University, Monday in the Land of Magic Classic played at the ICI Center.
 
The Thoroughbreds (6-2) went 2-0 in the event, while Tartans (6-3) split their games.
 
Skidmore opened a 36-29 lead at the half and maintained a one to two possession lead most of the second half, going 8-10 from the free throw line over the final 1:27 to secure the 12-point win.
 
Brooks went 5-11 from beyond the arc, scoring 15 of his 26 points in the second half. Aldin Medunjanin powered his way to 19 points, five assists, and six rebounds. Erik Sanders added 13 points and Connor Merrill 10 for the Thoroughbreds.
Skidmore hit 19 of 24 (79.2%) free throws, including 16 of 19 (84.2%) in the second half.
 
"I'm happy with how we played today" said Thoroughbred coach Joe Burke. "This was a very good win against a good team who plays in a great conference.
 
"Defensively our communication is key I thought we talked through a lot of their stuff so we got some stops and run outs. I also thought we really shared the basketball and found a good rhythm on offense.

"The Florida Trip was a great experience for us, we had great balance and a lot of different guys stepped up for us in key spots."
 
The Thoroughbreds return to action Jan. 4 at home against William Paterson at 1 p.m.
