Skidmore wins in Florida

Box Score DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.—Erik Sanders scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Skidmore College men's basketball team to a 75-70 win over FDU-Florham in the first round of the Land of Magic Classic being played at the ICI Center.

Skidmore (5-2) will play Carnegie Mellon on Monday at 12 p.m.

The Devils (5-6) led by nine, 56-47 with 9:20 left to play in regulation, but the Thoroughbreds responded with a 16-2 run over the next five minutes to go up by five, 67-62.

Skidmore's Erik Sanders led all scorers with 22 points and teammate Perun Kovacevic chipped in with 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting. Aldin Medunjanin added 14 points, four assists, three steals, and eight rebounds.

"Not the prettiest of efforts but it was a good win for us," said Skidmore coach Joe Burke. "Every time you come off a long layoff it takes time to get your legs back. I felt like we found them with about 10 minutes left in the game and fortunately we made enough plays down the stretch to secure the win.

"We are going to have to get rest and be ready to go for against a quality program tomorrow."
