SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY --Â The Skidmore College men's hockey team grinded out a 3-3 tie against UMass Boston in an ECAC East contest, Saturday at Saratoga City Rink.
Anthony Bird and
Brad Schuler each had multi-point games for the Thoroughbreds. Bird netted a pair of goals and Schuler produced two helpers, while
Aaron Beck and
Ondrej Krajnak also recorded assists.
Dan Cornell, Kit Sitterley and Cameron Harvey all scored for the Beacons, and Jeremy Finger chipped in with two assists. In goal, Zach Andrew made 18 saves on 21 shots.
Cornell and Sitterley tallied 25 seconds apart in the first to put UMass Boston ahead 2-0. Cornell scored on the powerplay at 7:26, redirecting Finger's low point shot, and Sitterley jammed home a loose puck on a scramble at 7:51.
The Thoroughbreds responded at 14:57 of the first with a power play goal from Bird. Schuler sent a point shot toward the net that Bird deflected into the top corner. Bird brought Skidmore level with his second power play goal of the game at 3:10 of the second from Beck and Krajnak.
The two teams traded goals to open the third period. The Beacons regained the lead at 5:08 of the third, as Harvey connected on a one-timer in the slot on a feed from Miller. Â Dupuis equalized at 9:10 with a power play goal, tipping in Schuler's wrist shot.
UMass Boston went to the power play with just over two minutes remaining in overtime, but Skidmore goaltender
Jack McDonald made six of his 34 saves in the extra frame to secure the tie. Skidmore was outshot 37-21, but went 3-9 with the man advantage.
The Thoroughbreds host Fitchburg St. Saturday, Nov. 30 at 2 p.m. in the opening game of the Skidmore Invitational Tournament.
