Thoroughbred skaters open with 11-1 win over Canton

LAKE PLACID, N.Y.—Nine different players scored goals in the Skidmore College hockey team's 11-1 season-opening win over SUNY Canton in a game played at the Herb  Brooks Arena.
 
Aaron Beck had two goals and two assists and Tony Giacin added two goals for the Thoroughbreds.
 
Skidmore put the game away in the first period with three goals in the first 8:54 on the way to a 5-1 first period lead.  Brian McQuillan opened the scoring 1:21 to start the offensive run.
 
Also scoring for the Thoroughbreds were Ondrej Krajnak (1-0-1), David Dupuis (1-2-3), Thomas Park (1-0-1), Anthony Bird (1-3-4), Brad Schuler (1-2-3), Dalton Weinstein (1-0-1).
 
Skidmore used all three goalies, with starter Ben Freiberg getting the win with six saves over the first 30:01.
 
The Thoroughbreds open ECAC East play at home Friday night against the University of New England at 7 p.m.
