Thoroughbreds fall 2-1 to NEC

Henniker, N.H.-- New England College won a 2-1 defensive battle with Skidmore College in ECAC East hockey, Saturday.
 
With the win the Pilgrims improve to 6-11-2 overall and 5-7-1 in ECAC East play.  The loss drops Skidmore to 9-9-2 on the season and 6-6-1 in the conference.
 
Skidmore would open the scoring at the 13:30 mark in the opening period as Phil Buonocore (Westfield, N.J.) would fire in a pass off the stick of Tony Giacin (St. Louis, Mo.).
 
NEC would come knot the game at 1-1 just 3:30 into the second half as Patrick Corcoran netting his first collegiate goal assisted by Matt Abbott (Kirkland, Quebec).
 
The Pilgrims would take the lead early in the third period as Cocoran would come through batting in a loose puck assisted by Garrett Brazzier (Mississauga, Ontario) and Jonathan Boxill (Bracknell, England) at the 2:47 mark.
 
The Thoroughbreds would battle throughout the final minutes of the third period but the Pilgrim defense would hold strong for the 2-1 victory.
 
The Pilgrims finished with the slight 29-27 edge in shots.
 
Picking up the win in net for NEC was Shawn Sirman (Blezard Valley, Ontario) who recorded 26 saves.  Seeing the bulk of the time in net for Skidmore was Spencer Sodokoff (Greenwich, Conn.) who finished with 18 saves.

Skidmore will take the ice on Friday, Feb. 1 when they host ECAC East opponent UMass-Boston.
