Thoroughbreds drop tight 7-5 game to St. Anslem

Manchester, N.H.-- St. Anslem held off a determined Skidmore hockey team for a 7-5 ECAC East win Friday night.
 
The Thoroughbreds are 9-8-2 overall and 6-5-1 in the East. St. A's is 10-4-2 and 7-4-1 in the East.
 
Five different players scored goals for Skidmore. 
 
After spotting the Hawks a 1-0 lead, Zach Menard scored his eighth of the season from Vlad Gavrik and Julian Malakorn at 19:30 to end the first period tied, 1-1.
 
St. Anselm went up 3-1 in the second, before Tony Giacin tallied a power-play goal at 6:17 from Anders Gundersen and Tim Colvin.  After the Hawks made it 4-2, Aaron Beck cut the lead to 4-3 with his fifth of the year from Chris Powers at 18:28.
 
St. A's went back up by two, 5-3, just 20 seconds into the third period.  The Thoroughbreds responded with defensman Thomas Park's first collegiate goal 28 seconds later from Alex Radmin and Dave Dupuis at :48.  The Hawks made it 6-4 at 6:43.   Jack Even cut it back to one, 6-5, at 18:29 from Gavrik and Brendan Cottam at 18:29, but St. A's ended the comeback with an empty net goal for the 7-5 final.
 
Ben Freiberg had 32 saves in net for Skidmore.
 
The Thoroughbreds travel to New England College on Saturday for a 4:30 contest.
