Thoroughbreds cruise to 69-41 win over Vassar

Box Score Poughkeepsie, N.Y.-- The Skidmore College men's basketball team completed the season sweep of Vassar Collge with a 69-41 Liberty League road win.

The Thoroughreds used a 17-0 run to end the first half and never looked back on the way to the win.  Skidmore is 12-6 overall and 6-3 in league play. The Brewers are 2-7 and 6-12.
 
Leading 21-15 with just under six minutes left in the first half, Skidmore took control with a pesky press and a 17-0 bonus-aided run that featured three 3-pointers and six free throws for a 38-15 halftime lead. Skidmore controlled the glass with a 43-22 edge in rebounds, 22-10 points in the paint advantage, and a 17-4 second- chance points advantage.
 
Melvis Langyintuo fueled Skidmore's crucial 17-0 run with eight of his 17 points during the span. Connor Merrill scored six of his 16 points during the run.
 
In the second half, the Thoroughbred lead swelled to as many as 32 points at 53-21 with 14:27 to play.
 
For Skidmore, Langyintuo added six boards and Merrill tallied a game- high seven boards. Terron Victoria was the third Skidmore player to reach double-digits, with 16 points.

"I thought we got back to playing the kind of defense that we need to play to be successful" said coach Joe Burke. "I was proud of the energy and execution of the game plan."

"It is Important to see if we can get some carry over tomorrow. We are trying to find our rhythm as we enter the second half of the season. We need to keep getting better and be more consistent."


The Thoroughbreds are at Bard College on Saturday at 4 p.m.
