Thoroughbreds battle back to tie UMASS Boston, 4-4

Boston, Mass.-- The Skidmore College men's hockey team came from four goals down to tie UMASS Boston, 4-4, in ECAC East action Saturday.
 
The Thoroughbreds are unbeaten in their last three games for a 3-2-1 overall and ECAC East record. The Beacons are 2-2-1 and 1-2-1 in the East.
 
UMB scored the games first four goals before Brian McQuillan scored his first of the season at 19:14 of the first, for a 4-1 score at the break.
 
Skidmore scored twice in the final 53 seconds of the second period whittled the deficit to one, 4-3. Brendan Cottam scored his fourth of the season from Tony Giacin at 19:07 and Zach Menard beat the buzzer from Brad Schuler at 19:59.
 
In the third, it was Menard again with the tying goal at 16:17 from Giacin and Schuler.
 
The Beacons had the better chances in the overtime, but Thoroughbred goalie Spencer Sodokoff stopped all five shots he faced in the extra time.
 
Sodokoff finished the game with 17 saves on 17 shots after coming in at the start of the second period.
 
Skidmore outshot UMB 29-25.
 
The Thoroughbreds host Nazareth College in the Skidmore Invitational on Nov. 24 at 2 p.m.
