Skidmore volleyball perfect in league play with 3-0 win over Union

Box Score Saratoga Springs, N.Y.-- The Skidmore College volleyball team moved closer to the Liberty League regular season title with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-14) win over Union College, Tuesday at the Williamson Sports Center.
 
The Thoroughbreds are 9-0 in Liberty play and 19-5 overall with three league matches to play. The Dutchwomen are 3-6 and 16-12. 
 
Skidmore used a 6-0 run to break open the first set. Clinging to a 9-7 lead, Mallory Mendelsohn served six straight points, including two aces to make it 15-7.  Aria Goodman had two kills in the run. Union's Rachel Wayman's block got her team back on the board and started a four-point streak that cut it to 15-12, but that was a close as the set would get.
 
In the second set, Skidmore broke open an 11-11 tie with a 14-6 run that included a pair of long rally wins by the Thoroughbreds.  Mendelsohn's kill ended the first rally, while Goodman had the kill on the second rally. 
 
Skidmore closed out the match by outscoring Union 15-6 over the final 21 points. Corrine Palmer had six kills and and two blocks in the set to lead the Thoroughbreds.
 
Palmer finished with 15 kills, four digs, and four blocks. Mendelsohn had 39 assists and three aces, while Carolyn Bottelier had 11 kills and seven digs. Sam Frieman had 18 digs and two aces.
 
For Union, Rachel Wyman had 12 kills , four digs, and five blocks. Kelley White had 13 digs, and two blocks, while Marissa Vollmer contributed 13 digs and two aces.
 
Skidmore heads to the North Country this weekend to close out the Liberty League regular season against St. Lawerence, RIT, and Clarkson.
