Skidmore completes weekend sweep with 3-2 win

Saratoga Springs, N.Y.— A 3-2 ECAC East hockey win over St. Anselm College gives the Skidmore College hockey team its first league weekend sweep of the season.
 
With six games to play, the Thoroughbreds are only two points out of third place after starting the weekend tied for eighth.
 
Skidmore evens its ECAC East record at 6-6 and is 7-10-2 overall. The Hawks fall to 6-7-3 and 3-7-2.
 
Nick Dupuis  (Holyoke, Mass./Springfield Falcons) scored the lone first period goal at 9:53 to give the Thoroughbreds a 1-0 lead. Dave Dupuis (Kuujjuaq, Que./Kent School) assisted.
 
Brendan Cottam made it 2-0 at 1:12 of the second period with a power-play tally from Tim Colvin (Brunswick, Ohio/Hartford Wolfpack).  St. Anselm got on the board late in the second when Johnny Daniels  drove home a rebound for his fourth goal of the season at 18:39.  Zach Menard (Burlington, Mass./NH Monarchs) responded for the Thoroughbreds a power-play goal at 19:32 from Aaron Beck (Maribel, Wisc./Lake  Forest Acad.) and Dupuis for a 3-1 lead at the break.
 
The Thoroughbreds controlled the tempo in the third period, but St. Anselm pulled its goalie late and Tim King took advantage of the extra man to score at 18:40 to get the Hawks to within on 3-2.
Skidmore clamped down and controlled the play over the final 1:20 to secure the win.
 
Skidmore killed all five St. Anselm power-play attempts.
 
Colin Bessey (Montclair, N.J./Trinity-Pawling) earned his second win of the weekend with 23 saves. Nick Dries stopped 26 shots in net for the Hawks.  
 
The Thoroughbreds are at Babson and UMASS Boston next weekend.
