Box Score

New Paltz, N.Y.-- Annie Rosencrans scored a career-high three goals to lead the Skidmore College field hockey team to a 5-2 non-league win at New Paltz.

The Thoroughbreds, ranked seventh nationally, are 3-0, while the Hawks fall to 2-2.

New Paltz took an early 1-0 lead at 9:28, but Skidmore settled down to even it 1-1 on Rosencrans' first goal off a corner from Lauren Tobias and Kelly Blackhurst at 18:53. Tobias made it 2-1 on a diving effort on the left post finishing a pass from Ceilidh MacNeill at 29:07.

In the second half, freshman Sam Revera sent a perfect ball into the circle which was deflected up and in by Annie Rosencrans for her second of the day. New Paltz narrowed the margin to 3-2 but four minutes later Skidmore answered the call. Freshmen Sam Skott gave Rosencrans her hat trick on a brilliant play up the left wing resulting in the perfect feeding pass. Blachurst finished the scoring on a nice feed from Caylyn Sullivan. Annie Weis, along with Ellen Kolman and Jess Danker, locked down the defense in front of freshman goaltender Amy Beck. Second half midfield pressure from Jackie Slocombe helped the Tbreds to gain control.

First-year goalie Amy Beck had three saves to earn the win in her first collegiate start. Skidmore had a 21-7 shot advantage, including 14-3 in the second half.

"We battled through adversity to defeat a fiesty New Paltz team," said Skidmore Coach Beth Hallenbeck.  "With two starters out with injuries, the team's skill , depth and determination were ultimately the difference.

The Thoroughbreds are home for the first time on Sept. 14 at 4 p.m. against Oneonta.
