PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The Skidmore College golf team is 16 strokes off  leader University of Rochester after the first day of action in the Fred B. Kravetz Invitational Golf Tournament.

The Yellowjackets shot a collective 322 at the Irondequoit Country Club. McDaniel College shot a 327. Huntingdon College is third with 330 strokes, Allegheny College fourth with 332 strokes, Skidmore fifth with 338 and Franklin & Marshall College sixth with 345.

Golfers were affected by three conditions: a high round, lightning-fast greens, and high winds. Five of the 35 men broke 80. The first day leader is Chase Blaich of Huntingdon (Ala.) College. He shot a 76. Paul Kovalcheck of McDaniel is second with a 77. Peter Anderson of Skidmore and Marc Youngentob of Rochester are tied for third with 78s. Nicholas Palladino of Rochester shot a 79.

Irondequoit is a par-72 course, measuring 6,792 yards. On Saturday, action will shift to Oak Hill Country Club, also in Pittsford. That course is a par 71, 6,781 yards.

The low score on the front nine holes was a 38- done by four players: Youngentob, Kovalcheck, Oliver White of Allegheny, and Anderson.

Only three men broke 40 on the back nine. Blaich, who was two shots off the lead at the turn, shot a 36 on the back nine to finish with 76. Kovalcheck and Jonathan McMahan had 39s.

This is the 13th year of the Kravetz Invitational. Skidmore is the defending tournament champion. Huntingdon won the 2009 tournament. Rochester's best finish was third place in 2001 and 2010.
