Arrechea wins #400 as Thoroughbreds breeze to two wins

Schenectady, N.Y.—Skidmore College volleyball coach Hilda Arrechea picked-up career wins 399 and 400 Friday night at the Interleague Invitational at Union College.
 
The Thoroughbreds made it look easy with beating Hartwick 3-0 (26-24, 25-17, 25-13) and Lasell 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-10) to improve to 13-7 for the season.
 
Arrechea has compiled an impressive 400-200 record over 17 seasons at Skidmore.  Among active NCAA Division III coaches, she ranks 25th in wins and 42nd in winning percentage.
 
The Thoroughbreds have posted 13 straight winning seasons, including seven seasons of 25+ victories and three seasons with 30 or more wins.


During her tenure, Skidmore has reached the NCAA tournament six times, most recently in 2007.  The Thoroughbreds have won three league championships and her athletes have received All-American honors 15 times.
  
Also, Arrechea and her husband, assistant coach Jerry Rodriguez, together with assistant coach Jeff Beachy, have been named Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year six times


In the Hartwick win, Kelley Vershbow had 14 kills and seven digs. Corine Palmer added 13 kills and Mallory Mendelsohn had 27 assists.
 
Against Lasell, Sam Friedman had a team-high 13 digs. Mendelsohn had 33 assists, while Palmer had 13 kills.
 
Skidmore continues tournament play on Saturday.
