Saratoga Springs, N.Y.—The Skidmore College men's hockey team extended its win streak to four with a 6-2 win over Tufts University in ECAC East/NESCAC play, Saturday at the Saratoga Springs City Rink.
The win moves the Thoroughbreds to 6-5-2 in the ECAC East and 7-10-2 overall. The Jumbos have lost 10 straight to fall to 3-10 in NESCAC and 4-12-1 overall.
Skidmore jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead on
Alex Mykolenko's fourth goal of the season at 1:29 of the first from
Dalton Weinstein and
Tony Giacin. Tufts tied it at 8:08 on a shot from the point by Andy Davis. The Thoroughbreds tied it and took the lead for good when
Alex Essaris scored his first of the season from goalie
Colin Bessey at 10:52, followed by a
Tyler Doremus goal from
Hunter Thayer and
Joe Melnyk at 12:12.
The teams traded goals in the second. Mike Vitale scored a power-play goal at 16:11 for Tufts to cut the Skidmore lead to 3-2. Giacin countered with his fifth goal of the season at 17:59 from
Jack Walsh and
Nick Dupuis to make it 4-2.
The Thoroughbreds put it away in the third with the second goal of the game by Doremus from Dupuis at 2:42 and the first goal of the season by
Chris Powers at 13:59 from Dupuis and Essaris at 13:59.
Colin Bessey had 23 saves in net for Skidmore, while Brian Phillips had 19 saves for Tufts.
