Tony Giacin hat trick led the Skidmore College hockey team to a 4-2 ECAC East/NESCAC crossover win over Connecticut College, Friday night at the Saratoga Springs City Rink.
The Thoroughbreds have won three straight to improve to 5-5-2 in ECAC East play and 6-10-2 overall, while the Camels fall to 5-6-1 NESCAC and 6-8-3 overall.
After a scoreless first period, Skidmore scored on its first two shots of the second. Giacin (St. Louis, Mo./N. Iowa Outlaws) opened the scoring with a power-play goal from
Nick Dupuis (Holyoke, Mass./Springfield Falcons) and
Alex Essaris (Dollar-Des-Ormaux/Worcester Acad.) at 2:47. Giacin made it 2-0 on his next shift from
Vlad Gavrik(Kharkiv, Ukraine/Hebron Acad.) and
Jack Walsh (N. Reading, Mass./Phillips Andover) at 4:12.
Kevin Kelly got one back for Conn at 7:03.
Brad Schuler (Delran, N.J./Hamilton Red Wings) extended Skidmore's lead to 3-1 with a short-handed goal from Dupuis at 11:41.
In the third period, the Camels pulled within one when Jordan Gray scored a power-play goal at 16:45. The Thoroughbreds came right back when
Alex Mykolenko (Kharkiv, Ukraine/Northwood School) fed a perfect pass to Giacin who connected for the hat trick and his fourth goal of the season.
Andrew Ross (McKinney, Texas/Boston Bulldogs) had a solid game in net for Skidmore with 21 saves, including 14 in the second period. Andrew Margolin took the loss for Conn College with 18 saves.
Skidmore will host Tufts University on Saturday at 4 p.m., while Conn College travels to Castleton State.
