Canton, N.Y.—The Skidmore College volleyball team wrapped its season with a 1-3 record at the Liberty League Championship hosted by St. Lawrence University. The host Saints won the five-team event. The Thoroughbreds finish with a 24-9 record.
During the event, it was announced that Skidmore senior
Meredith Palmer was selected Liberty League Player of the Year. Teammate
Sam Friedman was named to the All-Liberty First Team, while
Kelley Vershbow and
Mallory Mendelsohn made the All-Liberty Second Team. Palmer was also named to the All-Tournament Team.
Skidmore opened with a 3-1 (25-19, 20-25, 25-15, 25-21) win over Union College. Palmer had 14 kills and a .333 hitting percentage.
Kelley Vershbow added 21 kills and 10 digs, while Friedman had 28 digs. Mendelsohn chalked-up 48 assists and 14 digs,
Carolyn Bottelier had 11 kills and 11 digs, and
Corinne Palmer had three blocks and eight kills.
The Thoroughbreds then lost a tough 3-2 (25-21, 17-25, 21-25, 25-13, 11-15) match to Vassar. Palmer had 14 kills and eight blocks and Vershbow had 26 kills and 11 digs. Friedman finished with 28 digs and Bottelier had another double/double with 12 kills and 10 digs. Mendelsohn recorded 54 assists.
Skidmore dropped its third match, 3-1 (19-25, 25-21, 25-14, 25-15) to the host Saints. Palmer had 12 kills and three blocks and Mendelsohn had 30 assists and three aces.
Clarkson beat the Thoroughbreds 3-0 (12-25, 20-25, 22-25) in the final match, Vershbow had 13 kills and a .385 hitting percentage and Mendelsohn had 31 assists.
