Manchester, N.H.—The Skidmore College ice hockey team picked-up its first win of the season with a 7-4 ECAC East win at St. Anselm College on Saturday.
The Thoroughbreds jumped on the scoreboard with 12 minutes remaining in the first period when
Hunter Thayer (Shelburne, Vt.) scored his second goal of the season. Saint Anselm knotted the score at 1-1 on Ryan Butler's (Arlington, Mass.) goal.
The Hawks took the lead just three minutes into the second period on a shorthanded goal by Paul Snell (Groton, Mass.). Skidmore scored on a power play goal, followed up by a five-on-three goal by Saint Anselm's Tucker Mullin (Andover, Mass.), and the Hawks took a 3-2 lead into the locker room.
Tyler Doremus (Aspen, Colo.) scored Skidmore's third goal of the game just 2:35 into the third period, followed by an
Alex Mykolenko (Kharkov, Ukraine) goal to give Skidmore the lead just four minutes later.
Vlad Gavrik (Needham, Mass.) made the game 5-3 for Skidmore, which proved to be the game-winning goal. Mullin added his second goal of the game and season making the score 5-4. The Thoroughbreds scored two more goals, both empty net goals, to conclude the scoring of the game.
The Hawks drop to 0-2 on the young season, and 0-2 in the ECAC East, while the win improves Skidmore's record to 1-1 overall, and 1-1 in the ECAC East.
The Thoroughbreds travel to Potsdam on Nov. 27.
