Thoroughbreds finish 2-2 at Skidmore Invitational Volleyball Tournament

Saratoga Springs, N.Y.-- Skidmore finished 2-2 at the Skidmore College Volleyball Invitational, this past weekend at the Williamson Sports Center.

New Paltz and Cortland each finished the weekend with a perfect 4-0 record, with New Paltz winning the tiebreaker, having not lost a set.

Senior Meredith Palmer (Montvale, N.J.) was named to the All-Tournament team for the Thoroughbreds.

Skidmore will return to action this weekend, when they travel to St. Lawrence for the Liberty League Tournament.

Mallory Mendehsohn recorded a double-double with 44 assists and 10 digs to lead Skidmore to a 3-1 win.  Also for the Thoroughbreds, Carolyn Bottelier had 18 kills, Sam Friedman had 25 digs and Corrine Palmer finished with eight blocks.  Theresa Lilly led the way for Plattsburgh, totaling 18 digs and 11 kills, while Kayla Nason had 43 assists, Kaylas Hoopes had 12 kills and Cat Darling tallied a match-high nine blocks.

Dana Kindelmann had eight kills and six blocks in a 3-0 victory for New Paltz.  Melinda DiGiovanna added 20 digs and five kills and Brigid Moore had 10 assists, six digs and three service aces for the Hawks.   For Union, Mackenzie Westfall and Kim Armstrong each had 12 assists, while Eve Richards had 10 kills and Erika VanValkenburg had 17 digs.

Hilary Boyea had 20 assists, Kristin Saheim had five kills and Andrea Kalter had six digs for Plattsburgh.

Match Notes:
Melinda DiGiovanna led the way for the Hawks with a double-double (12 digs, 10 kills).  Dana Kindelmann had eight kills at a .750 hitting percentage and four blocks, while Marissa King had 20 assists and Elanor Skovgaard added seven kills and four blocks.  For Ithaca, Sydney Folk had 14 digs and 13 assists, while Jessica Hoeffner had 10 kills and Taylor Horton had 16 digs.

Carolyn Bottelier recorded a double-double with 13 kills and 11 digs, while Meredith Palmer had 17 kills at a .459 hitting percentage and four blocks as Skidmore earned a hard fought victory over Ithaca, 3-1.  Also for the Thoroughbreds, Sam Friedman had 27 digs and Mallory Mendelsohn had 48 assists.  For the Bombers, Jessica Hoeffner recorded 14 kills and four blocks, Kate Thoene had 17 kills and Taylor Horton had 16 digs.  Sydney Folk added 28 assists for Ithaca.

Kristen Guercio had 55 assists and 10 digs while Ashley Coyle had 24 kills and 20 digs and Kaitlyn Cooper added 12 kills and four blocks for Cortland.  For Union, Eve Richards had 13 kills and nine digs, Erika VanValkenburg had 22 digs and Mackenzie Westfall ahd 20 assists.

Ashley Coyle led the Red Dragons with 24 kills and 21 digs.  Kristen Guercio aslo tallied a double-doulbe with 58 assists and 14 digs while Kaitlyn Cooper had 11 kills and three blocks and Sheena Asibey had 15 kills and three blocks.  For the Thoroughbreds, Caroly Bottelier had 11 digs, 10 kills and four aces, while Merdith Palmer recorded 15 kills and five blocks and Mallory Mendelsohn had 33 assists.

Kate Theone had 13 kills at a .417 percentage and Marissa Woodcome added 20 assists to lead Ithaca.  Tina Orlandini added 17 digs for the Bombers.  For the Dutchwomen, Jordan Remillard recorded her 500th career kill, Eve Richards had 12 kills and six digs and Erika VanValkenburg had 26 digs.

Brigid Mare had 11 assists, Michelle Jacobson had 17 digs and six kills and Melinda DiGiovanna added seven digs and five kills in New Paltz's 3-0 win.

Ashley Coyle (19 digs, 13 kills) and Kristen Guercio (38 assists, 13 digs) each had double-doubles to lead Cortland.  Sheena Aisbey added 10 kills and three blocks and Kaitlyn Copper had nine kills and two blocks for the Red Dragons.
