Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The Skidmore College ice hockey team suffered a 2-1 overtime loss to Trinity College, Saturday night at the Saratoga City Rink.

The Thoroughbreds fall to 5-7 overall and 4-3 in league play, while the Bantams improve to 6-4-1 and 3-2-1 in the league.

Neither team could score during the first two periods with Thoroughbred goalie Colin Bessey (Montclair, N.J./Trinity-Pawling) and Bantam goalie Wesley Vesprini matching each other save-for-save.

Skidmore junior Hunter Thayer (Shelburne, Vt./Green Mountain Glades) broke a scoreless tie in the third period when he scored a 4-on-4 unassisted goal at the 7:40 mark.  Trinity answered right back when Sebastian Kimmel scored on a power play at the 10:49 mark to tie it up.

The teams battled back and forth and forced overtime, until Trinity's Matthew Quigley took a pass off a faceoff and got one past Bessey for the game-winner 3:56 into the overtime.

Skidmore outshot the Bantams, 40-33, while each team had four penalties for a total of eight minutes.  Bessey finished with 31 saves, while Vesprini had 39 stops.

Skidmore travels to Plattsburgh on Tuesday, Jan. 12.
