Zach Menard (Burlington, MA) scored with 1:54 remaining in the
third period to give the visiting Thoroughbreds a 3-3 tie against the Tufts Jumbos in a NESCAC/ECAC East men's hockey game on Saturday afternoon at Valley Forum II.
Tufts scored twice in the third period to take a 3-2 lead. The Jumbos finished with their second tie in as many days, including a 2-2 final against Castleton on Friday night. They are now 8-7-3 overall and
4-6-3 in league play. Skidmore (7-11-1, 6-6-1) stopped a three-game losing streak.
The Thoroughbreds got on the scoreboard first when sophomore
Tyler Doremus (Aspen, CO) potted a rebound with 5:29 remaining in the first period for his seventh goal. The Jumbos, out-shot 17-10 in the period, evened the score with 2:02 on the clock when junior Zach Diaco (Rumson, NJ) scored. However, 28 seconds later Skidmore had the lead back on a goal by freshman
Alex Radmin (Watchung, NJ) with 1:34 remaining until the first intermission.
A scoreless second period saw 16 saves by Tufts goalie Scott Barchard (Reading, MA). The Jumbos killed off three Thoroughbred power-play chances in the middle stanza.
Skidmore Sophomore
John Bienkowski (Lexington, MA) finished with 30 saves. Barchard finished with 41 at the other end for Tufts.
